ded on the website - Dave Shaw ) and PDF format the agenda for the meeting to be held on Saturday 20th June together with the minutes of last year's meeting. For the reasons set out below, it is important that you circulate these to all your members as soon as possible.
The
Agenda includes no less than 12 proposals for changes to the
Consitution which have been received within the prescribed notice
period. Whilst some are tidying up existing practices, others
are
more fundamental so it is important that as many people as possible
make it to the AGM.
The
attached document also outlines the procedure for anyone who cannot
attend the meeting but would like to register a postal vote on any or
all the proposals. They must individually email me or post me
their votes which I must have received prior to the date of the meeting.
I hope that everything is made clear but do
contact me if not.
Best
wishes
Jonathan
Rashleigh - Secretary

Have you got a chess demonstration board ?
We are trying to arrange one or two coaching sessions on our club nights at Carlisle for which one, or preferably two, wall-hanging demonstration boards would be ideal. Would any of our clubs have equipment like this which we could borrow for a short while?
Any help would be appreciated.

16th December 2014 ( Updated 18th December with funeral details )
Peter
Watson, who played for the Wyndham Chess Club, which was subsumed into
SASRA, died following a fall on December 3rd.
I doubt if many people playing in the league now will have known him, but those who have been around long enough may well remember him.
I can't remember when Peter stopped playing in the league, but it will have been the early to mid 80s. He was playing top board for Wyndham when I started playing in the league in the 1976/77 season and certainly would have been playing into the early 1980s.
Originally from Sussex Peter was a graduate from Oxford University who moved to Egremont when appointed Head of English at Wyndham School in Egremont. Following retirement he became active in politics, and for many years was a councillor for Egremont on Copeland Council. During this time, and after he left active politics he set up and published a local newsheet Egremont Today, which although he had formally handed over the editorship he was still working on up to the time of his death. On a personal level he taught me English, when I was a pupil at the school and why it was not a good idea to play against the Marshall if you were not prepared when I was a member of the chess club. He will be very much missed.
Peter's funeral is on Friday January 2nd
St Mary and St Michaels Parish Church Egremont at 11:45am followed by a Quaker service at Distington Hall Crematorium at 1:15pm.
