The 21st South Lakes Chess Congress
The next South Lakes Chess congress will be held on 2-4th June 2017 at Kendal Leisure Centre.
Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to move the Congress to a new venue which we think will be a great improvement for the chess players. Better lighting and more room for each individual player, plus an easy to reach venue.
Coffee tea etc will be provided at reasonable prices and there is a direct road link from the M6 junction 36 direct to the Leisure Centre. Also there is more than enough parking and the Leisure centre are quite happy if you need to stay overnight in the car park (showers the next morning can also be arranged).
Details of Guest House/Hotel accommodation will be on the back page as usual of your entry together with directions for road and rail links.
The centre is approximately 10mins walk from the centre of Kendal which is an ideal town for touring the Lake District. There are also buses that will take visitors right to the heart of the lakes.
We do hope that the change of venue will not inconvenience you and trust that we will see all our regular and new players in June 2017.

Amendment to the Cumbria Chess Team Rapidplay
Note from Dave Cole -
To confirm – the event on 16th Oct has now been postponed and will now take place on Sunday 20th November.
Also, please note the change in rules, which will allow all chess players to take part; where there will be a points handicap (similar to Whitaker rules) based on total team grading.
I hope teams previously discouraged from entering will now do so.
If you have problems with the entry form, just send an email to Peter Hanks with team details without using the form.
Thanks
RegardsDave

Fixtures
This seasons fixtures are now available on the Fixtures Page.
Will team captains please make themselves familiar with the new additions to the Constitution, two points of which I summarise below -
- A player can now play for another club within the same league, but still subject to a maximum of 3 games for any team other than their main team.
- Matches
are to be played within 3
weeks ( and 1 day ) of the fixture date. eg if the fixture is on the
first
Saturday of the month then the last day that the game can be played on
is the 4th Saturday. The match CANNOT be postponed for after that date.
If a mutual date can not be ageed, the Home team captain has to offer 2
dates with at least 2 weeks notice, one of which is to be selected by
the away team. If the Home team do not offer 2 dates then they forfeit
the match. If the Away team do not accept a date, then they forfeit the
match.

Neil Foxcroft receiving the Whitaker Trophy for Ulverston.
Here is a brief roundup of the outcome.
- The Cumbria Individual is to go back to 2 sections - Major & Minor. The Bob Greenhaugh Trophy goes back to Grade 100 max.
- Any player can now play 2 games without joining the ECF or Cumbria Chess Association. A game fee still has to be paid. Previously this all applied to just 'new' players.
- In League matches a team is allowed to have a 5 point leeway on players grades when positioning players in the board order. This does not apply to the Whitaker.
- A player can now play for another club within the same league, but still subject to a maximum of 3 games for any team other than the main team.
- Matches are to be played within 3 weeks and 1 day of the fixture date. eg if the fixture is on the first Saturday of the month then the last day that the game can be played on is the 4th Saturday.
- There are no changes to the Officers.
The full minutes and the new Constitution will be available shortly.
